No - only those you are responsible for. There are many things II *can* see how it could be a goodI can see how it would be a good reason to have a "better safe than sorry" wrt anyone's children.
reason to have a "better safe than sorry" policy wrt your own
children.
would not choose to permit for my own children that I would not
presume to dictate that others should also prohibit.
That is pretty much the whole problem, really.
All I was suggesting was that it was illogical to set different standards for those who can have unsupervised access at nursery school, etc, to those you allow to have such access at home.
Remember that the UK
has recently been found to be one of the worst places in which to
bring up children. So this in loco parentis of which you speak doesn't
seem to be working very well, does it? More like just plain loco would
be nearer the mark. Think of many other states where the State decided
to hold every citizen's hand 24/7: The Soviet Union, China, North
Korea, Nazi Germany.
There does seem to be an absence of intelligent design. The only people allowed weapons for self-defence on the street are the police. But if a police officer is being beaten up by a couple of yobs, people nearby are expected to go to her assistance. Ask a child if it is lost - and end up in Darbies. A computer error by your insurer - and end up without a car. Heckle a politician - end up in custody.
I actually felt safer and more free in Haiti during a civil war than I do here in the UK, at times. The local community protected itself. The police were inefectual, universally loathed and were too scared to go anywhere remotely dangerous.
The carbonmania is only just starting - how long before it is a crimminal offence to leave the County without registering the trip and another for not using the most economical route?
