I feel very sorry for her husband and her children. Having stood by
her and helped fight to clear her name, they have to watch while she
descends into a spiral of drink and depression. Maybe she should have
fought harder.

I feel sorry for the two children she killed, I also feel sorry for Roy
Meadow.

Indeed. I still feel more sorry for Roy Meadow than for Sally Clark.

Why?

Because he is and was a brilliant doctor, who has saved many lives and whose
evidence has led to the imprisonment of many killers. His contribution to
society is vastly greater than yours, mine or Tony Blair's.

Is that because he had the good sense not to drink himself to
death, after hearing that the utter clap-trap he gave as "evidence"
had been rightly and soundly rejected by the Court of Criminal Appeal?

No.

It is because he was pilloried by the press who were looking for a scapegoat
and who didn't understand the science of the case or the workings of
criminal law, but felt able to criticise the professor for his "elementary"
mistakes in statistics.

Periander is probably beyond all hope; others may not be. Read and
learn:

For a better exposition (and yes, you'd like it too), read Stolen Innocence
by John Batt. Quite a good book even though it is occasionally flawed by the
sort of remark that goes "just looking at her face, you knew she was
innocent" (that's not a direct quote though).
