I have been reading about the distance selling regulations on;

If a consumer cancels an order, written notice must be given to you
by:

goods - seven working days from the day after that on which the goods
are received by the consumer;

So if I received the goods last Friday, then I have until Tuesday 13
November to tell the supplier to take them back? Is a fax sufficient,
or even an email?

I haven't yet decided whether to keep the goods or not, because I
haven't even had time to try them out, I am merely looking at the
options.

Fax or email is perfectly sufficient.

But "trying them out" may mean you can no longer return them,
depending on the goods.

The law is intended to give you a right to "inspect" them, similar to
the right you would have to inspect goods in a shop before committing
to buy them.

As such, they have to be in "as new" condition before you can return
them under the DSR. Some retailers try to push this too far, and say
you can't even open the packaging, although whether that would stand
up in court is rather doubtful.

Might that depend on the rigidity of the packaging?
