What it might
mean is that among other factors, our IQ tests assess skills that
white people tend to do better with.

But among any group, whether white, brown, black, Asian,
Anglo-Saxon, or African, there will be wide variations in IQ
*within the subgroup*. No one is suggesting, though, that we may
not *say* that! Imagine a head teacher, having tested all boys in
his school on their IQ, was not permitted to divulge the results in
case those with lower scores were made to feel like second-class
citizens.

Imagine a head teacher announcing to the school, during assembly,
that a careful analysis of the school's IQ tests had shown that black
pupils were consistently scoring less than the white pupils, and that
the school would therefore bear that in mind when considering making
any of them prefects, or
entering them for exams. Imagine the effect on the pupils: the
taunting, the resentment, the vandalism, the acts of violence.

And imagine the head saying "but we think the truth must be said, and
damn the consequences".

Why are you so afraid of the truth? What you're saying is, the head
should suppress it. Got an ology in propaganda, have you?

No, I'm saying that in some circumstances the truth need only be told
to those who *need* to know about it. In that example, to the
educational psychologists and the senior staff in the education
authority.

But my understanding is that his views as reported here, i.e. that black
people are genetically less intelligent does not hold up against the
scientific evidence and so it's not a Truth at all, merely his
interpretation of some data. So, basically he was blathering. Whether he
should be given a platform at the Science Museum is anyone's guess -
Speaker's Corner seems somehow more appropriate.

Maybe the police would move him on. They seem to be well up on
political dissent, and Watson's theories would certainly attract their
attention.
