reference to a very, very well known stated case used in the teaching of
law. Even Richard got it and he's a solicitor

Well exactly, any excuse to lower one's culpability is seized upon by
some folks around here. They don't like the appellation "Sex Offender",
it's not their fault after all. "The girl was gagging for it", "it's not
my fault if society has different standards than me", "how was I to know
she was a child just because he had his school uniform on", "hey I
didn't rape the child, I just paid to see pictures of it being raped",
"Of course when they say no they really mean yes" ... and so forth.

Why engage engage with the folks who use that kind of statement to
justify their offending and the offending of others? I can't see any
point to that at all ...
