If I asked you if you could definitely and positively recall the

purchase> a month ago, would you be able to answer "Yes"? Would somebody
stood next to you?

I think someone has answered that, unusual purchase.
I still think that being able to be sure of exactly what amount was
actually shown is unlikely. Remembering how much you thought you were
paying, yes that is certainly to be expected, but remembering what was
displayed is another matter.
As was pointed out quite early in this thread, you tend to see what
you expect to see, rather than what is actually there.
You would IMO be more likely to notice relatively small differences,
such as if it said £25.99 than to notice the extra 1 on the front.
