I was just wondering what with all these experts popping out of the
woodwork just how many folks around here have actually had any life
saving experience or training?

Me?
Training: Mountain leader (winter cert - now replaced by new scheme),
BCU (kayaking) - the 'old' SI qualification; 'ordinary' lifesaving (two
or three courses I can?t remember exactly now), FA, FAW, army FA
instructor (now lapsed), deliberator trained. Mostly trained over 20
years ago prior to and whilst being employed as an outdoor pursuits
instructor although my first aid and defib is up to date.

Experience: Helped save a few people from drowning on separate occasions
(one was under water for a couple of minutes and is now brain damaged -
we had to dive underwater to get him out), carried dead people of moor-
land and mountains (and when on those occassions I was there in time or
present when an incidet occoured helped rescue them safely). Had one
person die in my arms whilst I was giving CPS, talked a few people out
of suicide on one occasion the daft bugger had a rope round his neck and
knife in his hand - we actually became friends afterwards, went to his
funeral when he did manage to kill himself a year or so.

Now even 20 years ago when I was pretty much the dogs bollocks when it
came to (a) preventing dangerous occurrences outdoors - never had a
serious incident on any course being lead by me and (b) helping/dealing
with others when it went tits up I wouldn?t have considered myself an
'expert'.

Now, I wonder if any of the experts posting here would care to share
their training records and experience with the group?

Doubtful - they probably have no wish to brag about irrelevant things
in a legal newsgroup.

If it helps your survey - I have:
pulled three people out of a burning aircraft;
dived fifty feet to save an eighty year old woman who had fallen in a
gravel pit
single handedly removed a nail bomb off the back of a would be
terrorist on the top deck of a number 42a before he could explode it.

Personally, the only individuals whose life saving qualifications and
experience seem to be relevant are those that were present. I would also
rather like to know what an officer of either genus has to have before
he is allowed to attend incidents. I took it for granted, perhaps
foolishly, that both would have to have passed some form of swimming and
life saving proficiency.

Oh, and perhaps someone of your and your PP's stated experience and
expertise who had actually visited the site.

AFAAIK, it does make a change *not* to hear bereaved parents thanking
the emergency services for doing all that they could. It will make a
change for /all/ the emergency service members present at the incident
not to be there at the funeral. This is the first time that I have heard
of the names of those involved not being released following a rescue
attempt. Although I suspect the police officer involved will be both
named and commended..and be welcome at the funeral.

Any what you have posted has precisely what relevance to what I
posted? - or were you intending to reply to someone else?
.
