LCD TV purchased Nov 05 with 3 year Manufacturers Warranty.
Discovered a feature that does not work in Mar 07. Manufacturers
Service Org. (Independent Company with contract) failed to rectify.
Supplying dealer no longer trading. Wrote to manufacturer : no reply.
Anyone suggest next step ! Phone calls are structured to wear you
down. Really frustrating. Anyone got a fail safe remedy for this situ.
Although your primary warranty is with the retailer, under current consumer
law, the manufacturer is bound by the terms of any warranty that he
provides. Note that it is the manufacturer who is bound - you have no
relationship with the Independant Company. Since your set is within that 3
years warranty, you need to read the terms and conditions of that warranty.
If you feel that you are covered, then write by recorded delivery to the
manufacturer requiring them to honour their warranty. Point out that if
they decline or fail to respond, then you will get the TV repaired by
another repair company, and issue proceedings to recover the full costs
through the County Court.
If necessary actually do it.
You don't say who the manufacturer is, but the more well known ones are
rarely this difficult. You also don't say what the feature is. It may be
that the feature is something that could not be tested at the time of
manufacture due to the lack of other suitable hardware (quite a common
occurance these days).
Name and Shame.
