I am a teacher and our school has had a few thefts (laptops etc)
recently.
As a result we
have had to take a few extra precautions as regards security etc.

However, staff have been asked to sign a form saying they will
take responsibility for the security of laptop etc and they will
be personally liable should the equipment go missing.
And if you refuse to sign?
Well that's what staff have come to me about (I am the NUT rep at
the school). If they take away the equipment then we cannot
deliver the curriculum!!!!
Books and blackboards/whitebords are too archaic to teach with are
they? What is wrong with teachers actually trying to inspire kids
and *teach* rather than rely on technology.
Seems you don't live in the real world matey.
Oh I do

That's the way things are
these days. ICT is an integral part of the curriculum.
Yet you are unable to state which part can't be taught without a
laptop.
Frankly to say you can't teach without using a laptop is bollocks.
What part of the curriculum requires the use of a laptop? Maybe,
just maybe computer science, but even that doesn't really, just
give every lab a Wise terminal.
Many schemes of work require the teacher and pupil to use on line
resources which enhance good teaching. I suspect you haven't set
foot in a school recently!!
Which part of put in a Wise terminal didn't you understand?

Why do you need to go online for "good teaching"? Aren't teachers good
enough to teach anymore just because they are teachers?

Really, you haven't actually stated why you all need laptops.

It's about time teachers got into the real world, use computers for
backoffice stuff and actually do what you're paid to do. No lesson
needs a laptop. So just tell your teachers to leave them at home
and get on with their job - I'll chip in 50p for a packet of chalk
I assume you have been reading the 'Daily Mail' a little too much
recently!!! :-)))
Is that really the best you can do? Are you expecting me to retort
about the NUTters making "Red Ken" look like Ghengis Kahn? Pathetic.
Get your fingers out and start teaching, you do not need a laptop to
teach.
Tell your members to leave the laptops at home and practice what they
are paid to do, teach.

Eh? The laptops are the school's property. Why do you think the teachers should deprive the school of their own property ?

It seems you were worried about the school being deprived of its property because laptops were left at school. Tell your members to leave them in the school safe then if you don't think home is safe enough. Who cares, so long as the teachers do what they are paid to do, which is teach. You guys are just scared that taking away the props shows the poor skills.

BTW, you *still* haven't said what parts of the curriculum require the use of a laptop rather than good teaching
.
