Re: Road wars

There's a programme on Sky called Road Wars, another which is pretty
much the same thing called Street Wars where a film crew tags along
with the police and films them. I've seen a few things that to me
looks a bit unusual.

I saw in one clip an unmarked(?) police car was following a car that
had been reported stolen. They didn't try to pull the car over
before it pulled into a car park of its own accord and the driver
and passenger got out. From there one PC goes to the drivers side
whilst the other goes over to the passenger side, the camera crew
follow the PC going to the passenger side. The passenger got what
looked like the good news across the knuckles from the PC's baton
then told to get down on the ground, after which he was handcuffed
and put in the back of the police car. The camera then shows the
driver who is sitting with his feet up inside the car having a chat
with the other PC! Seems rather unusual the treatment the passenger
got compared to the driver. Turned out the driver got charged with
something whilst the passenger was released.

Another clip showed the police searching a car because they could
smell cannabis. They found cannabis on one of the passengers who was
arrested. Later in what appears to be the same night the police go
round to the arrested guy's house to see what they can find in his
bedroom. His mother opens the door who is upset to learn her son was
arrested but asks if they have a search warrant. The PC said he had
and she would get it when they finished! I'm wondering how it's
possible for the police to get a warrant so quickly and whether the
mother did get a copy after they finished.

On another case, a PC and a WPC suspected that a house was being
burgled. They had spotted the burglars through the garden window and
realised they were outnumbered and assistance would take time to
arrive. The WPC went to the front and guarded the front door.
Meantime the single PC at the back, shouted: "Come out or I send in
the dogs", although he had no dogs. <tongue in cheek> Is he allowed
to do that?

It's a common trick , and one that often works
