Every time you give the a cheque (or use your debit card), you give

they can then set up a DD using those details JUST as readily as they
can set one up if you ask them to.

Er, slight problem, I haven't authorised them so to do!

Kin hell, it's just not getting through, is it? Even if you *do* have a DD,
companies can only take pre-notified amounts. If they take anything else, you can get
your money back straight away - JUST LIKE if a DD has been set up
fraudulently/mistakenly.

Discounting your ridiculous suggestion that there are companies out
there who are fraudulently or "mistakenly" setting up DD contracts
(though how they would actually do that would obviously involve the
collusion of the banks), I avoid any problem simply by minimising my
exposure to DD.

If you want to discount the suggestion that neither Andy nor I have
ever made, fine.

So just what *is* your objection?

I thought the whole basis of the objections raised by you, Johannes
and Ian were that it was too easy for companies to do precisely that.

Both Andy and I have been pointing out precisely that those things
hardly ever do happen.

So you are very welcome indeed to "discount the ridiculous
suggestion", since that just means you are agreeing with us.
