Is it usual to ban pets from offices? Has anyone any experience of such a

Yes, I have had experience of such a situation. There was a
colleague of mine who brought his dog into work. He did not have
his own office, just one of the desks in a large room. The dog
lay on a rug under his desk all day, and was taken out for a
walk at lunchtime. We were all quite happy with this, and I
never heard of any objections being made by anyone.
