I'm saddened by the fact that this legislation was even felt
necessary in some quarters.
It's a very positive spin on what basically is the police being
removed from the first step of a process which could have been
construed as a negative.
I'm accutely aware of that. I also note that the legislation extends to
cover "school security personnel" as well as "teachers", so it doesn't
actually need to be a teacher doing the stopping and searching.
I'm not sure how far things have to go before people start to realise
exactly what this government is up to.
I watched a piece on the news last night about the new CCTV cameras with
sound systems hooked up so that the operator can speak to those whom the
camera can see. One of the example they chose to show was a person dropping
litter at which point the camera operator stepped in and announced, "will
the gentleman in the blue jacket please pick up the litter he's just dropped
and place it in the bin.".
What next? Automated machines on street corners than issue us with a fine
each time we use "innappropriate language"?
I'm really beginning to despair, not at the fact that the government is
doing all this, but that the average man and woman in the street seem to
want to let them.
