Do you similarly feel that people with assets should not receive a
pension?
That's probably only a matter of time.
Where have you been living for the past decade? It has already
happened fora huge percentage of the population.
Really? So if you have assets you don't receive a state pension?
Many people have lost their main pension whether they have assets or
not.
But not because of their assets, which is what you applied.
ITYM "implied". What I meant was that many people have worked all
their life with the firm belief that they will receive sufficient
pension after retirement to live comfortably. Instead, they discover
that they have been duped, and their pension is nowhere near
sufficient to live on, and they are not eligible for supplemental
benefits because of their assets. So they are forced to sell their
assets in order to generate sufficient cash to live on.
Another way is to sell all your assets in the UK after retiring, and
emigrate to a country where that money (plus pension) will buy far
more. The catch there is that you probably will have to pay for
medical treatment that usually becomes more and more necessary as you
get older.
