Why is the kid his responsibilty?

I can see the argument that half the cost of an abortion is his responsibility or even at a stretch pregnancy expences, after which the kid could be adopted. What I don't see is why he should pay such a huge amount for a small unintentional accident which could have been easily fixed.

You may not like the fact that some women see babies as a chance to sponge off the state but that isn't really his fault is it?

I suspect we are stepping into religious type justifications for paternal responsibility.

I don't care if he coughs up or not just don't come knocking on my
door.

But you will be paying for other peoples kids in all sorts of ways,
education, familly tax credits etc, etc.

Depends if they're paying tax doesn't it, but just because I'm
expected to hand over my hard earned cash to subsidise other peoples
kids doesn't make it right.

By the way, it may come as a shock to you but, it would actually be
cheaper for all of us to pay for our kids to go to private school than
pay the state through taxes to do it, becasue they piss most of it up
the wall and what's left goes on a duff education.

I think you'll find that the 11k per child per annum per child that I pay is a bit more than the state pays. Additionally I do accept that I should pay tax to educate other peoples kids as this is in the long term interest of society and hence my long term interest. I would join you in wishing that state schooling was better.
