It's a witch hunt. A friend was recently found guilty of downloading child
porn onto his business computers a six years ago even though he had proof
that on many of the occasions the police said he was at his pc downloading
porn he was either out of the country or on the other side of it. Other
employees had access to the pc's and his login and email account. The
police never traced the ex employees (they left years ago). The jury
ignored the evidence of the defence and found him guilty anyway. The
images were buried deep in the pc in hidden files that you just wouldn't
look for if you were innicent.

This guy didn't do it, pleaded not guilty, and will probably end up with a
2 year sentence. It's a damn witchhunt and jurors are easily convinced by
the prosecution, possibly due to the display of the horrendous images in
the court. Why do they have to show the actual images? Nobody disputed
that they existed or what category they were, and it just inflamed the
senses of the jury.

And how easy is it to inadvertantly download porn? After this case I
checked all the hidden folders on my pc and found images of extremely hard
adult porn that I had no idea were there - I never accessed those sites!
Seems evey pop-up you delete leaves the images in hidden files in your pc!
It's really scary.

Very easy. An image can be included in any web page but specified to
display in a 1 pixel square block. Although the image won't appear on the
page (except as a dot), it is downloaded into the cache. But as you note,
even if you delete it from the cache, it is retained in the really hidden
folders that Windows won't let you access, even if you know where they are.
