Let us also not forget that in most cases the bank charges are
avoidable.

Don't go over agreed over-draft limits.
Learn to stay in credit, so don't spend what you haven't got!
Don't be late with credit card payments.
Don't go over credit card creidt limits.

You forgot: Don't eat yellow snow.

lastly banks are businesses not charities.

believe it or not. That fact had not escaped me. I still expect them
to behave in an honest and ethical fashion.

Re: Yorkshire Bank.

I had a car loan which (they said) could only be repaid by a standing
order from a current account at one of their own branches (Why ???) .
So I had to open a new current account for that sole purpose. The
payments to that account were mailed to the bank in good time for 2
years and 11 months..

Very curiously they claim that the 36th payment out of 36 was not
recieved by them. I had posted the letter myself, in the same batch of
postings, same postbox was a letter to DVLC (of all places) which
arrived in good time.

They claim my cheque never arrived, but they didn't inform me
immediately (by phone, they had my number and after all it was 2005
not 1805) but after 2+ days doing nothing informed me by a sending a
letter sent by 2nd class post. Total delay = 6-7 days.

On phoning them up they said there was a daily charge which had
already amounted to ca £80.00, and unless we presented cash of the
folding variety that amount would continue to accrue charges on a
daily basis until cleared funds had been received, and that therefore
we had better jump in the car get cash from a proper bank and Hi-tail
it 10 miles across the city and pay in the missing amount. No mention
of what had happened to the missing cheque, which for all we know had
gone missing in their processing.

We will shortly be taking up the cudgels once again. To get their
ludicrous charges back + a bit of compo for inconvenience of a return
trip across the city.

So shove that up your ugly patronising arsehole and smoke it.

DG

No one would take issue with you expecting the bank to play fair in the
cas of lost or missing cheques , looking at your payment history would
show in your case the non payment was genuine , however, thier are many
people that constantly go outside thier agreed limits fo no other
resaon than the cant control thier spending habits
