It says in my policy booklet, P28, under section F - basis of claim
settlement:

C) Pay the cost of repairing the item or part; or
D) Make a cash settlement

If they hadn't deducted the cost of the restoration effort from my
contents insurance I would have been fully covered - surely it's
neither right nor fair that they can do this?
Of course it is right and fair.
What do you think C covers?
You now have a case against ChemDry for their false claims to have
restored your property.
How? He has no contract with ChemDry under which to sue. No. his beef is
with the insurance company as ChemDry were retiained by them. The Insurance
Ombudsman is the way to ultimately go, as the insurance company have failed
to meet their obligations in that they have failed to pay for or
satisfactorily 'repair' a substantial part of his insured property.
