Hi there,
I was wondering if any of you could help me out here,
I recently read an article that seemed adamant that to collect IP Data
- i.e your IP address as you browse a website, is illegal under UK
duristiction (meaning servers hosted in the UK) - as it is considered
by law as "Personally Identifiable Information" and therefore subject
to the data protection act - and the Data Protection Act mentions that
you should / can only keep data that is "appropriate or relevant", i
can't see how IP address is relevant except for law enforcment
agencies trying to track a paedophile etc.
You don't think it's relevant if it means the server can actually respond back to your IP address with the data you requested? How do you think you'll get the web site data if there isn't a record of your IP address on the server?
Use a proxy!
Anyway, how does 194.131.158.14 identify you as a person? If you're that paranoid get off the internet.

Can someone shed some light on me if this is true? If it is illegal,.
and if so, what laws / government acts this is covered by so I can
carry out some further reading.
Any help is appreciated,
Greg
