Some do seem more likely to fail than others.
I've heard mention of lots of french cars but no fords , bmws or VAG
cars

Are you saying BMWs were not affected. That is not correct as mine was
very much affected.
If you have posted before about this, I missed it. Did you have the
sensor
replaced? Were you advised not to drive it until the repairs had been
done?- Hide quoted text -

I had the car looked at before the dodgey petrol business blew up and
the fault was not diagnosed. As the car is getting on a bit, J reg, I
didn't want to spend a fortune on diagnostics. The mechanic changed
plugs and put a second hand flow meter on it. Didn't fix the problem
but the car did run, sort of.
Yesterday he fixed a new Lamda sensor and it is now perfect.
Excuse my ignorance. The Lamda sensor is the thing that gets damaged by the
defective petrol? Yes?
Did you keep the old one? Have you written to the supermarket garage to
claim reimbursement? I'd be interested to know whether they give you an
encouraging reply (probably along the lines of "we have added your claim to
the rest of them, and when our experts have concluded their investigations
we will be able to give you a decision on your claim: meanwhile we are
grateful for your patience").- Hide quoted text -

I don't have the old one but I have been using the same mechanic for
over 20 years, he showed me the new one before installation. I have
registered on the Tesco hot line and with Trading Standards. Once I
have the invoice and where to send it to it will be winging its way,
with copies of the petrol receipts to Tesco.
I see that the garages are putting the price of petrol up to cover
this fiasco anyway so that aren't going to lose out.
They will probably screw the UK farmers a bit more on the price paid
for UK produce as well just to make a bit extra in the retail store
just in case screwing the motorist doesn't cover all the losses.
