Longish
- what is the likely prognosis ?
any generic term for this business for
further research ?
Can't be certain of all the following because the
landlord (L) has been known to be economical with the
truth, presumably for PR type reasons.
L was a manager of a pub in overall control of one of
the big, non-brewery, multiples, (M) identity known but
withheld here. A couple of years ago L bought the
lease of the pub but overall running still controlled
by the same M.
A year or so L was caught selling beer from the
grey market ie not selling the beers 'approved'
by M. AFAIK there is a very murky arrangement
involving sweeteners/kickbacks between the brewers and
the likes of M, varying barrelage rates/costs etc,
outside of control of L.
Anyway non-approved selling is counter to his contract
with M and presumably at least warned should he
repeat this infraction.
For whatever reason L was caught out again selling
non-M-approved beer. Apparently L was heavily fined
, by M, which involved putting L's house up for sale.
Since then the pub seems to be 'run' on a day to
day basis. It would seem that L has no account
facility with M, ie no cash on appearance of
the beer drey then no delivery.
If no beer then pub closes, other times often open with
only a couple of beers. Most noticeable with
(lack of) stocking of mixers, alcopops etc on the shelves.
Anyone any idea what is likely to be forcing this
situation which obviously cannot continue
for a viable pub.
Food side of business has also been affected adversely.
Live beer cannot be served the same day of delivery
and retain customers, etc. Why is this situation
in the interest of M, rather than normal trading ?
