With some trepidation I am changing my ADSL supplier to Sky, because they

I don't think you'll regret it...
Sky require their customers to use their wireless router, not your own. It
can support up to 4 computers, which won't necessarily suit everyone. If it
isn't powerful enough to reach the extremes of my home it will be an awkward
and time-consuming problem to solve. Does anyone know whether speeds over
8mb are likely to be achievable anyway?
Uploads AFAIUI are always 256k
I would have thought if you still live where I think you live you won't
have any problem getting 8mb downloads.
No doubt someone can suggest a suitable newsgroup to get feedback from other
customers but I am assuming that this is going to turn into a question about
breach of contract before the year is out ...
I doubt it.
Sky have spent around £211m or so buying Easynet
http://business.guardian.co.uk/story/0,3604,1597606,00.html
and paying the Easynet CEO/Founder to stay on and run it.
Sky are intending to spend a further £400m over the next couple of years
to develop the Easynet infrastructure so that it is largely independent
of BT infrastructure.
Sky do however have a customer service and customer support problem --
but so would any company taking on something like 100,000 new customers
a month.
I expect the requirement to use Sky's router is for customer service
problems. You may notice BT has the same requirement.
