No. I cant recall the proper wording, but it is something like 'you
should not show any white light to the rear'.

If it was an offence to show any reflections, then everyone with a
mirror in their vehicel will be breaking the law at some time.

Retro reflectors are lights within the meaning of the Regulations and are
subject to the requirements as to colour. Spurious reflections from other
surfaces are not.
