My view is : if you break the law, you're fair game!

So, imagine you were driving past my house at 35mph. Then, without warning I blew your car up with a bazooka, then I dragged you, semi-conscious, from the wreckage and bum-raped you. Then I cut your arms off with bolt-cutters and, having videod the whole thing, licensed the rights to a pay-per-view tv channel and made a massive fortune from it, and I didn't give you a cut.

I should be immune from any prosecution/civil action should I?

If not, why not?

That crime would have to be committed against the person concerned, or a member of their family or their property - that seemed such an obvious implication that I didn't think it needed stating.

Proportionality of response would also be an issue. I wouldn't suggest death for petty theft - a dose of corporal punishment should be convincing enough.
