18 yr old girl being evicted when mother just died

Hi folks,
I'm after some advice if anyone has time to give it.
My mother passed away this past Tuesday morning, leaving my 18 year old
sister as the sole occupant of the house they were renting. The land-lord
visited her this afternoon and told her she has to be out (including all
posessions) by the coming Sunday--less than a weeks notice--despite the fact
that there are an additional two weeks paid for.
I have just learned that, unfortunately, there is no rental agreement other
than verbal. I don't know why she did this. Apparently he would visit once a
month and take cash from her in exchange for living there - of course it's
obvious why HE did it. But she didn't even obtain receipts.
I understand that, legally, she is classed as a squatter? My mother won't
even be buried until Thursday, and it is clear this man is devoid of all
moral decency. She doesn't intend to remain in the property, but needs the
paid-for two weeks to clear things and, of course, to adjust. What are her
rights, and what is the best course of action?
Thanks in advance.
~ Dave.
