A prison inmate with a substantially below average intelligence is believed
to have prompted the anti-terror raid in Forest Gate during which one man
was shot, a newspaper claims.
The Sunday Mirror reported that the 22-year-old man, who has an IQ of 69,
was the trigger behind the dawn raid earlier this month.
The former waiter, a childhood friend of the two brothers who were arrested
during the raid two weeks ago, was jailed for six years in January for
terror offences.
The paper has been told that it was after friends of Mohammed Abdul Kahar,
23, and Abul Koyair, 20, visited the man in top-security Belmarsh prison
that the men were put under surveillance.
The brothers reportedly laughed off the fact they were being followed by the
security services. New information passed to the security services, said to
include detailed drawings of a suicide vest, led to Operation Volga and the
early morning moves to arrest the pair, the paper said.
Friends of the brothers have told the paper they believe the man was the
trigger for the operation that culminated in 250 police officers descending
on the home in Lansdown Road, Forest Gate at around 4am on June 2.
Mr Kahar was shot in the shoulder during the raid before being taken off for
questioning. The pair were released a week later without charge.
The man's lawyer Sara O'Keefe told the Sunday Mirror that just before the
raid, her client had been moved from the high-security jail in south-east
London to a category B prison. She said she did not know why he had received
such favourable treatment or whether he had unwittingly helped MI5.

Koko the gorilla http://www.koko.org/world/ has an IQ of between 70 and 95
when tested on the scale where 100 is the normal human average. So
apparently the 'critical intelligence' which led to 250 police swamping an
entire neighbourhood and shooting one man came from someone slightly less
bright than an ape.
I wonder how many combined scores of the senior police officers who
organised the raid it would take to match Koko's IQ?
