As the offer was made in writing, it seems unlikely that your
interpretation of the circumstances is correct. I would take it to mean
that the OP received an offer after the interview, had time to consider
his response and came up with one that implied indifference.
I was simply answering your point on lack of immediate acceptance, once
the
offer is made. I would still want time to think about it. If an
employer
had problems with that I would assume that they were trying to rush me
into
acceptance. I would be quite surprised if most people answered an offer
of
employment by return of post.
If someone really wanted the job, he would send off a written acceptance
but also make a 'phone call to say that his acceptance was in the post.
The point is whether committment to the job is only indicated by an
immediate response to the offer of a job. The only time I have accepted a
job immediately was during a spell of unemployment, where I had absolutely
nothing to lose. If you are in employment already then you probably have
something to lose and only a fool would respond until he was completely sure
that it was what he wanted to do.
