A secretary at work has a nephew who is in his 40's. He has been a
police officer for 22 years. He works in some sort of special squad
presumably in plain clothes, and drives an unmarked police car. One
day last week he went out with other members of his team and had a
drink at lunchtime, then somebody said have another one ...
After leaving the pub he had a minor bump in the car. The police were
called and breathalysed him. The result was positive. He has been
charged.
All fairly straightforward
Assuming he wasn't very far over the legal limit is it likely he will
lose his job? What about his pension ?
This is something that the police federation will be best placed to advise
him on.
He *may* be allowed to keep his job , he may not.
What about the other members of
his team? (aiding & abetting?).
Nothing. They are not responsible for how much he had to drink.
*if* he was very obviously drunk then they could however find themselves on
disciplinary charges if they ignored this and watched him drive off but that
doesn't sound like the case
