What do you mean by a blemish? Was it "just" a few faulty pixels?

A white dot slightly above the middle of the screen, clearly visible if
that part of the image is anything other than white.

It's this 'feature'of these so-called modern displays that deters me
from buying one. The other day, to replace a busted VDU, I scanned the
internet and found Dabs, EBuyer and many others selling CRT monitors
very cheaply indeed (compared to what I was paying five years ago). I
ordered a Philips 17" at £62.67 (plus VAT). Maybe by the time that one
wears out, the 'modern'replacements will be up to snuff. Even if there
wasn't the problem of pixels dying, I still don't like these screens.
They seem terribly 'cold' somehow, in comparison with a normal VDU.

They do free up a heck of a lot of desk space. Some time ago I replaced
the 17" CRT monitor on my main computer with a 20" flat dispaly made by
Iiyama, the only company that seem to be making flat screens with colour
accuracy and viewing angle anywhere near as good as CRTs. If I'd got a
CRT that size, the screen would be so near the front of my desk there'd
be no room for the keyboard. It cost an arm and a leg, but considering
the amount of time I spend looking at it, and the fact that I use it for
adjusting photographs among other things, I reckoned it was important to
get a good one. There are no blemishes.

I also have a laptop, my second one. Neither it nor the old one has any
blemishes. My sister has a laptop too, and a flat screen TV set, and
neither of those has any blemishes. Several of my friends at work have
laptops and none of those has any blemishes either.

Yes, the prices of CRTs are plummeting. I have three CRT monitors
surplus to requirements, all in working order in my junkroom, but the
prices of new ones are such that I may find it difficult to give them
away. If anyone in north west Liverpool wants a CRT monitor, let me know.

(Or a blemished flat screen...?)
