You're relying on S24(4), which I do not think is applicable here. The
alarm going off is NOT reasonable grounds for suspecting that shoplifting is
in the act of being committed. False alarms are very common.


24(1)(b) actually (although it must be combined with 24(4)).

And I think the law would disagree with your assessment.

Certainly the legal advice the BBC obtained did.
