Well, I disagree.
If someone has an accident and is injured, and has several weeks off work
(presumably with a crushed finger that perhaps got infected) that isn't
something to scoff about. Accidents happen to ordinary sensible people.
Sometimes because they aren't paying attention, but that doesn't mean you
should switch off your sympathy. I bet if your child crushed his finger in
a door you wouldn't condemn him as an idiot and offer him no comfort or
sympathy.
Her friend (not the injured party, incidentally) asked about compensation.
A fair question. If he had taken his friend into a firm of solicitors they
wouldn't have jeered and said "you idiots, bugger off and learn how to load
a trolley or keep out of Ikea in future.". They would have given objective
advice.
