They might need to get the paperwork out to send documentary evidence, in
which case 35 quid to retrieve from off-site storage and put it back sounds
positively cheap to me.
Besides that, think about what's involved:-
Open post
Log it
Complete progress-chasing system to make sure that the paperwork gets dealt
with
Sort it and give to appropriate person to deal with
Look up the reservation on the database
Extract details and fill in form
Then give this to someone else to double-check it all, because all hell
breaks out if you finger the wrong person to the Police.
Finally, send off the details to the Police and update progress-chasing
system to show task is completed
Then file copies, store these for six years and then confidentially destroy.
(Six years is probably not necessary in this case, but it's hard to
discriminate in a filing system.)
I don't see why 35 quid is unreasonable. That pays for maybe an hour's
clerical/supervisor time. Remember that wages are only a fairly small part
of what it costs to employ somebody.
