ISTM we (British) have a long history of rewarding scoundrels.
Scientists and medical researchers in Hitlers pocket were squabbled
over by the allies, and went on to have outstanding careers with their
adopted countries. Nothing said about their "misdeeds".
Even the latest round of pomp, given to the cricketers, FFS everyone
who does well for themselves and lined their pockets is given a gong.
By the way, Elton has given a lot away to charity, much much more than
most high earners, Bob Geldorf, on the other hand, lined his own
pockets using the publicity gained by having a washed out ex popstar
pleading on main tv.
Jealousy? Well, maybe, bitter, definately.
