So telling

Two stories in the Guardian today, one with a legal theme, seemed to me tell us a lot about this Government.

Falconer signals curbs on 'irresponsible' information requests

I have some sympathy for the view that some requests, particularly from journalists, seem frivolous and a waste of time. But that is what happens when you have *freedom* of information as opposed to Government-rationed information. They just don't get it. They do not understand the effect, or the importance, of the Government *not* controlling everything.

Honours for Coe, Westwood and heroes of July 7 bombings

"Leading those honoured for the response to the bombings are Peter Hendy, the Transport for London managing director for buses, Tim O'Toole, managing director of London Underground and Julie Dent, chief executive at the South-west strategic health authority in London. They all receive CBEs.

"MBEs go to David Boyce, the station supervisor who went into the tunnel at Russell Square tube station, John Boyle, first on the scene at London Aldgate and William Kilminster, a London Ambulance Service paramedic. "These people showed immense strength of spirit and courage in the face of terrorism on our transport system," said a Downing Street spokeswoman."

Leaving aside the philosophical arguments about honours, am I the only one who thinks it stinks that the brave, low-paid workers who personally descended into the horrors get measly MBEs, while the bosses who just did their well-paid jobs from their offices, albeit in difficult circumstances, get CBEs? If ever proof was needed of this current Labour party's attitudes to bosses and workers, this is it.
