Nudity and the Law

First of all, please forgive me for leaping into this group, which I don't normally read, for the sake of a particular issue. I hope that's not bad netiquette.
I was just wondering if any of the experts on this forum could comment on the following statement (by a police officer) in relation to naturism occurring at a beach in Kent:
'it is an indictable offence at common law for a person to commit an act of such a lewd; obscene or disgusting nature as to amount to an outrage of public decency whether or not it intends to deprave or corrupt those who see it. There is a very old 1871 case which stated that exposure of a naked person is within the ambit of the offence.'
Is this accurate? Any details of the 1871 case that is being referred to here?
Thanks in advance.
