Re: MARGARET EDWARDS

Dear Mr. Dane
Firstly, it is amazing that you know so much about me and who I am. I
know I am known well in the town, but I didn't realize I had a
biographer. It is good though that you are one of many who read my
Manorisms articles in the Echo and the weekly news.
Firstly, Mr. Dane, I am young person who is very domineering and is
very sure about what I want to do. I am extremely confident and
sometimes too confident. I am honest and my honesty is evident with my
two letters in the Haverhill Echo recently. I know this is hard to
believe, but no one, and I emphasise No one is telling me to say what I
think. I am just saying my thoughts and my opinions. I have lived in
this town for all my life, and I have met a lot of people through
different societies. For being an "original" Haverhill man, I take
pride in town, hence the new Havepride scheme, which I am a major
supporter of. With my pride in my town, I am somewhat "annoyed" by the
people who continuosly slate our town and try and drag into the ground.
When someone does, my instinct is to react on this, and the best way to
do is to write a letter or to tell someone via communication. This
particular instinct after reading Chris Cullum's letter made me reply
via letter to the Haverhill Echo.
Is there anything wrong with this, Mabon, because I believe encouraging
more people to write is a good way to improve literacy, but it allows
more discussion, more opinions, and an overview of what the people of
Haverhill. So I wrote the letter single handly, with no assistance. And
as you say, I have good journalistic skills, so it wouldn't be hard for
me to do this.
Firstly, your damning of my letter is quite hurtful, especially when
you say reading on a bus is not cool. Mr.Dane, I was on that bus for no
fault of my own, I was in a difficult situation, and I'd wanted to
clear my mind from other things, reading is the best way to do it and
don't see why it is such a problem to read on a bus. With this damning,
you are clearly saying reading on a bus is not allowed, and it is
allowed for other peers to mock the person for reading the book on the
bus. If you agree with mocking a person, Mr. Dane, you agree with
Bullying and name calling, which then could follow on to more severe
circumstances, so on!
Secondly, the leisure activities I put in my letter were mere examples,
but why are these lesiure activities such a cultural shock, Mr. Dane.
You are being ageist if you say that bowls is an old's people game, at
the moment in time, it is percepted as an old people's game, but lots
of young people play Bowls. It is quite a fast and interesting game, it
is about skill and concentration, and it is something good for young
people to focus their energy on then the recent girl, who got the
town's first Anti Social Behaviour Order. The comment about the acts
that Haverhill Arts Centre for young people is codswallop. There are
plenty of films to go and watch, and although in the scheme of things,
they are late then other films, they are still available. There are
also plenty of plays and musicals, for instance Centre Stage Company do
a lot of productions for young people. But there is nothing stopping
youngpeople going to watch some of the tributes that are put on at the
arts centre. But speaking of tributes, the summer concerts on the
market square are basically aimed for young people, so this is rubbish
about nothing for young people at the arts centre. You may call me
ahead of my time, but there is a professional touring company coming
soon to Haverhill, putting on Alan Ackybourn, and I might go and seen.
Ackybourn is very funny, and nothing would stop a young person go and
watch one of his plays, if people like you would damn them so quickly.
The letter was just to try and reach out at someone in the town to try
and get them to do more things for young people, ie teenagers.
And before I move on Mr. Dane, the way you talk about goths and chavs
is not a professional thing to say for a former town parliamentarian.

The 2nd letter was I said before was my opinion of what Mr. Cullum had
said. It may not be the correct opinion but it is my opinion.
The defibrilllator question needed to be answered, and I don't see why
I couldn't answer, It was pretty logical for me to say that if someone
was having a heart attack at the arts centre, yes they would use the
defibrillator. Perhaps, it is old, but it is still able to help lives,
and I don't see why if members of the arts centre are trained, they
can't be able to use it.

The tax issue is really self explanatory. The arts centre is doing
well, so we shouldn't question the tax cost if it is going to this well
run cause. Getting Keith Floyd is a well done feat, by the arts centre
and you may think it's boring, but they'll be a sell out- money well
spent.
The puppetry of penis, you thought was a bad buy, but Mr. Dane, it sold
out two shows, if the arts centre can get acts that sell out, why
shouldn't they!

And Mr. Dane gaining respect is not wanted I want from writing these
letters, it ws to broadcast an opinion. But I think in comparison to
you and Chris Cullum, I don't know why.
I don't know and I can't really judge you, but people respect me in
this town, because I try to make our town positive and get people to
enjoy our town, compared to you and Mr. Cullum who on numerous
occasions have just complained for the point of complaining.

Have a good day!
