My local council have had the diggers in to remove swings and roundabouts
from a children's play area near my house. They say that it is because of
the cost of maintaining them. (we were not consulted)
At the same time they have spent large amounts of money on new equipment in
other areas of the borough, mainly in the council house areas.
They tell me basically it's tough, but I think they should reduce my council
tax as they are reducing my facilities.

Council tax doesn't work like that - there is no dependency on your
personal level of services built into it. You have to pay your
share based only on the value of your house, regardless of the services
you use.

You can get a house here for half of the big city cost.... I don't know if that include tax, but delivery would be less than half the cost for us too, but that's most likely because delivery within the United States can mean a lot more distance than you're looking at for delivery within the UK. ...
