As I said though, it's the Job Centre Plus staff who administer both
benefits and CS1 action (i.e fill out the initial application form). They
are the ones who SHOULD be administering her income support claim correctly.
CSA staff should certainly take any information passed to them on potential
fraud and pass it across to Job Centre Plus to investigate further. I have
heard, believe it or not, that CSA actually stops more benefit fraud than
Job Centre Plus do. That will change once CSA becomes CMEC and no longer
part of DWP.
I don't recall either of us saying that the CSA should prosecute.
However they should be aware and react.
Do they have any procedures when they know the information they have
is out of date/incorrect - probably not!
When we informed anyone about our particular case and the fraud being
committed we informed the benefit office. The PWC was claiming single
parent benefit. However as far as the csa was concerned she was saying
that she was living with the father of her other child so their was no
claim for CS (and therefore no reduction in the maintenance
assessable). She can't have it both ways. She was lying to one of
them. Someone should react to this. They eventually did - when the
child was 5.
