Hi,
Would appreciate some advice.
The CSA did a recalculation on my case last year. I had an additional
child since the previous calculation, and advised them of this. They
requested a birth certificate as proof. I spoke at length with them
over the 'phone about this, as I have had previous experience of
correspondence going missing. I suggested that perhaps I could send a
photocopy, and was told that a photocopy was insufficient, and that my
new child could not be taken into account if I failed to provide this.
I suggested that perhaps I could take the document to a local office,
where they could copy it and forward the copy to the office making the
assessment. Again I was told that the original had to go to the
assessment office, several hundred miles away from my place of
residence. I agreed to this, sending it recorded delivery, on the
basis that it would be returned immediately by recorded delivery.
This was done, and the reassessment completed. However, the Birth
Certificate was never retuned. I have made numerous calls and sent
many letters, chasing for the return of this document, all to no
avail. this morning I had a call from my complaints resolution
officer, advising that she has gone through every piece of paper that
they have on file for me, and that they do not have the document. They
do however have a photocopy of it, which they advise is on the same
paper that my accompanying letter is on. The inferrence here is that I
sent a copy, arther than the original. I know for a fact that this is
not the case.
I don't hold out any hope of ever seeing the document again, but would
appreciate any advice regarding how I might escalate my complaint, and
what compensation I might be entitled to.
Thanks in advance.
I would bill the CSA for the cost of a new birth certificate and put
in a letter of complaint via your MP. Chair has already suggested this.
