Thanks Fletcher. I thought it was 15% less 1/7 or possibly 2/7 for the time
he has them. There is also the fact he lets out a flat and since that is
worth more than £65,000 that would be taken into account as well.

CSA would be looking to take 10% of his net less anything he's paying into
a pension, so there probable would be a slight increase in her money if
she used CSA to go for his throat but be aware that dealing with the
British Gestapo is a nightmare not just for NRP but also PWC. She will be
put through the mill too. Many PWC never seem to get the money back from
CSA or it takes months and is inconsistent and if the relationship has
anything holding it together it will collapse once the Gestapo start into
him, he will hate her once she involves CSA, he may react by finding a way
out of the system and their are ways, then pay her nothing. So that has to
be balance against the potential zero to £600 a year increase.

I would suggest that if their are any lines of communication that those
are used to suggest that prices have gone up in the last 7 years, the
child is older and therefore has much greater costs and IF CSA were
involved they would take 10% of his net, which would be around £200 a
month and see if they can work this thing out without the Gestapo.

I have a friend who is receiving £150 per month for one child. This is
from
a Court Order dated 2000. His net income is now in the order of £2,000
per
month.

She's sufficiently timid not to pursue him in the courts despite having
crippling financial difficulties. She might get legal aid but given
what
the rules are now like I'm not sure.

Am I correct in saying that the CSA will not pursue any claim unless
she
goes on Income support?

Can anyone suggest a way forward for her?

Could you provide a bit more background? e.g. Has she approached her ex
directly for an increase in child maintenance and/or made him aware of
her
next course of action? Mentioning the CSA as an option may be a
motivating
factor.

If your friend and her ex are in any way amicable that will be
completely
destroyed by the involvement of the CSA. Plenty of PWCs as well as NRPs
have
been let down by the CSA and IMO they are the absolute last resort when
everything including Chinese water torture has failed. (Probably should
have
put a smiley here).

She's a little timid and very unlikely to directly cross him. It's one
of those things which isn't going to happen.

My experience of the CSA is that the rules are defined and he should be
able to work out for himself how much he's got to pay. Going to court
would be a far more protracted affair where she will have to both face
him and pay for the privilege. If the CSA do *** it all up then he
might wish to have a dialogue. Presently he'll put her down at every
opportunity.
