Your going anyway right! So nows the time to stick the boot in hard. The
only thing you loose if this fails is their reference and I suppose it
depends if you think that has any value or more value than cash.
So you go see the guy that makes the decisions, owner ideally, and nicely
you tell him how cold it is on the outside, how hard it is to find work, how
your bills mount and the Gestapo are killing you and right out you ask him
to quadruple your redundancy package. If he hesitates you know he knows you
can make life difficult so you still try playing Mr. nice but simple and yes
'I do really need that cash'. If he out right says no you tell him
straight - you have seriously considered the situation and you have been
advised that their may well be grounds for unfair dismissal and court action
as the work is'nt actually disappearing is it? and that will enevitably
attract the media as your so involved with all this gestapo stuff.
Any way you get the drift if you don't ask you don't get, try to keep it in
the bounds of negotiations, remember it's hard for a guy to make you
redundant face to face, they feel for your situation, hell it could be them
next. If they can't seem to find their way clear to quadruple it but are
prepared to haggle, go for the golden parachute spiel, sure you can take
less. The Gestapo are going to grab chunks of it anyway if its through the
books, say 'Look give my redundancy's and another xxx cash in hand and well
say no more about it' and shut up, the first one to talk after that
statement looses. Say nothing untill he/she utters whatever then in full
clear articulate english say thanks, thanky you and streach out you hand to
shake on it. (remember this is pain for them and they want it to stop) As
you shake spell out the deal they are agreeing to but as you shake smile and
say and I want a damned good reference as well.
What you got to loose?
