Hi all,
Quick question - I was thinking about going for the PC World offer of
Western Digital 1tb NAS (Network Attached Storage) device and keeping
all my photos, movies, and photos on it. Just wondering has anyone
else tried NAS and is it compatible with x360 or even PS3?
I emailed Western Digital but they told me to email Microsoft, but God
only knows when I'd get an answer back from them.

Thanks, Scott
Is this the 1TB My Book World Edition II?

So it's restricted in what files it opens up to a WAN or the internet
(but only through it's software) but lets you have total access on your
LAN? How is this a problem?

Why should it be limited at all?

Why should it provide any WAN access? No other NAS system dose without
using additional software. It seems that WD added some functionality and
people want more than that.

You'll run in to problems if it does turn out you can connect direct to the
XBox 360
The XBox will only work with drives formatted with FAT32, so you'll have to
reformat to FAT32 with partitions. FAT32 also doesn't support file larger
than 4Gb

but it won't connect straight to the 360, as i pointed out, because
the 360 can only read from a computer with wmp11, or some other
streaming solution, or from a drive connected via USB to the 360
itself.

the only way i can see this working with the 360 is by having to have
a PC on the network which can access the NAS and then stream it on to
the 360, which imo, pretty much negates the point of the NAS if it's
main use would be for streaming to the xbox.
