Looking for a bit of advice...
I have a couple of issues that have developed with my 360 (bought when
the second issue of consoles hit the UK): -
1. Odd noises from the DVD drive - quite harsh noises sounding like
something out of balance. Since the 360 was mounted upright, I decided to
lay it flat to see if this made any difference, which it didn't EXCEPT
2. Since turning the 360 I have had the console lock up a number of
times. Whilst I have not had the RROD (tell a lie - I did once when I
left the console downloading something overnight when it was still
upright and before the drive played up, but it hasn't happened since) the
lock up is a total freeze, with lines of dots appearing all over the
static image of whatever it was I was playing. First few times were when
playing Forza2, but yesterday it locked up on the dashboard when I left
it downloading TW08 - hardly a 3D intensive task and certainly not one
where it could be said that the DVD drive prevented data being spooled
quickly enough off the game disc (Forza spools lots of info off the disc
during play)
So - impending GPU failure at a guess. Anyone else had similar problems?
As there are two faults, any idea if MS will suggest that they would fix
the GPU issue, but not the DVD drive?
Any thoughts? I know I could turn the 360 back upright but obviously
something is running out of spec and I have had the one issue of RROD in
that position anyway, so it isn't going to be a long term fix for the
lock ups at a guess.
