Morn,
I know there's been lots of talk of not paying the 90 quid to get your
360
fixed out of warranty but has anyone actually managed to do so or is it
all
talk?
My replacement 360 has just packed in, got my launch day one swapped for
free in November just before the warranty expired. So this one hasn't
lasted 7 months and I don't feel like paying to get it swapped for
another.

I managed it. She wasnt going to budge, i mentioned watchdog, and the fact
that MS admitted they had problems with the initial batch....
Gaz
days, I thought 'soddit' and called the Gamestation in town. They told me to
take the machine back with the receipt (just the machine, kept the rest).
Had no problem swapping it for a new one which was taken out of a sealed box
in front of me and the chap gave me a new full years guarantee too. I
commented that I'd read online that there was supposedly a 30% failure rate
and he said that sounded about right.
Oddly enough, this was 7 months after I bought my original (new) machine
too... was/is there an inherent fault in certain batches? I know the first
ones where prone to problems, but my one was only bought in October last
year. Considering this was nearly a year after the initial batch I doubt it
was one of the first, as the store I bought it from seems to have a fairly
high turnover going by the amount of customers in there. Maybe I was
unlucky...
I had noticed a slight 'plink' when I turned the machine off, wondered if a
fan was knackered... worryingly when I switch on my new one I hear a 'Zzzp'
sound, which is definately the machine not the hard drive.Might just be a
fan starting up...
At least if the same thing happens again any time in the next year I'll
have less to worry about.
One other thing... I wonder if they (Gamestation etc) just send them back to
MS for repair and sell them as second hand machines once repaired? Suppose
it'd make sense, that way they don't lose out as much as I don't see why
retailers should bare the costs if its a recognised hardware problem.
