Picture quality should be very similar I guess, though if you have an odd native res on the screen (ie. not 1280x720), I'm led to believe that a VGA connection can improve the pixel locations as it has more flexible resolutions (ie. you can get a near 1to1 match on a 1366x768 screen for example).
