Re: Wireless Router for Cable Internet Access recommendation?

Well...i've already got a DSL Modem/Router and since the cable modem

Can't you plug a Wireless Access Point into your router?

a) Is this possible -> can I just go to the advanced settings tab on my
router settings and set up a route?

Shouldn't need to do any jiggery pokery really, but I would presume you can set the required bits under the advanced tab.

b) How do I do this if the cable modem has a dynamic IP address?

The modem will have a static IP address on the internal side, i.e. it will always be http://192.168.100.1/ or whatever the default setting is.

The IP address will change on the public (Internet) side of things though, normally, if you never re-boot or switch off your cable modem, it will usually renew with the same IP address.

If you need a fixed route to your network from the outside world then there are thins like....

http://www.tzo.com/

etc.

If you have a router and stuff then try getting your xbox working by hard wire through it first. If that is a success then explore the wireless access point route.

That's what I'd do first if funds were tight.
