Tricky to diagnose without chipping or softmodding mate. if you do then you
can unlock the hdd and test that in a pc or test a new one in xbox.
Could easily be overheating, in which case check the fan for crap and the
smaller one on the graphics chip (only on v1.0 xbox) make sure there
spinning well. If its chipped or you get it chipped you can monitor the fan
speeds on XBMC and probably a few other dashes too.
My step-brothers was acting like yours and it turned out to be the main fan,
there supposed to run at a constant 10-20% (cant rememeber whitch) and hes
was slowing right down to like 3% making the box crash probably because it
was gunked up with dust.
