Out of curiosity is anyone using Dark Alex's hacked firmware. I've just
used 3.02. I don't have a large enough mem stick so I haven't yet tried to
use PS1 files with it (for games I own).

It looks incredible - simple to install and relatively risk free and a
great way of playing PS1 games, homebrew and new purchased firmware
version sensitive releases.

Go to maxconsole.net forums loads of people on there. Even though its
"simple to install and relatively risk free" . Read the instructions and
then reread them numerous times.
