I bought an original PS2 a few years ago, but around a year ago the
optical drive failed so I put it to one side. I hadn't really used it
much in the past couple of years or so. The last game I really played
was FF X-2, and that was purchased in early 2004.
Yesterday I was given one of the newer models, which is of course a lot
smaller, and also has an Ethernet port. Now I need to move things
around a bit before I can plug the thing in as I'm out of spare SCART
sockets, and need to drag cables to plug it into my router, so I
thought I'd ask a few things here.
So apart from the physical differences are there any others, such as
the following:
Does the screen still go green on DVD playback with an RGB cable?
afaik, yes.
Does the CD player component do more than before - e.g. can it handle
CD-Text or play the SACD layer of SACD discs? (Both CD Text and SACD
were introduced by Sony after the first generation PS2 appeared).
no idea, can't remember the last time i felt the need to play a cd
through my ps2.
What's this network CD that I receive after registration?
you need that if you want to play PS2 games online. however PS2 online
is exceptionally ***, imo.
Are there any games incompatible with the new model that worked with
the old?
i think it has some problems with a few earlier PS2 games, but no idea
which ones. might be worth a google.
Does the new model support firmware updates at all?
no.
