Ordered HD Advance, a PS2 network adaptor and a 160GB Samsung hard disk.
The constant disk churning in Dragon Quest was starting to do my head in
and while the above solution might seem to be a bit of a sledgehammer to
crack a nut, it will mean I can load the vast majority (compatibility
issues aside) of my PS2 games onto the hard disk and bung all the CD's
and cases in a cupboard like I have done with my XBox ones, and that's a
good enough reason as any.
Will it let you play imports, by any chance?
I'm under the impression that it won't let you copy games straight onto
the HD using the PS2 because the disks won't pass the authentication
stage.
However, I do believe that if you copy the game to your HD via your PC
instead of via the PS2 using Winhiip or whatever, they should work OK.
Can't say I've tested it myself, though, since I don't have the need.
I should probably say that I have had a few games which haven't worked
with the HD. I can't say I've actually tried any of my dual layer games
(and I do have more than most), but I know that Kingdom Hearts 2 freezes
up when you try to play the Gummi Ship stages, and that Atelier Iris has
audio problems (it trims the voice samples IIRC). I'm pretty sure I have
a few Japan-only games which refuse to work outright, but aside from
Simple 2000 vol 105: THE Maidclothes and Machineguns freezing after
loading, I can't remember what.
